Volume mascara reviews

So I was going to do a post about clothes Ive recently bought, then I found out my sister has lost my camera. I honestly chose a great time to start a blog. (Sarcasm intended) So instead I decided to review a couple of volume mascaras I have tried recently. Please comment if you have any on posts you would like me to do if you read this.

So the first mascara I am going to review is by Maybelline. Its the colossal volume express mascara as shown below.

Maybelline Colossal Mascara Black

Firstly I wasnt to keen on the appearance of this mascara as I thought the packaging looked cheap and unproffessional. I wouldnt have bought it myself as packaging like this gives me the impression it wont work as well for some reason, however my mum bought this for me so I thought I'd give it a go. Its reasonably priced at £7.19 and is currently on a 3 for 2 offer at Boots. The brush is just the kind of brush I love on a mascara big and bushy- I dont like to faff about with these little plastic things. Another thing I love about this mascara is you can achieve great coverage with just one coat. I personally love to gain a fake lash effect with my mascara and this is great for that as I usually find I have to sit and layer for ages and end up getting quite bored and giving up- with this mascara I only need a couple of coats. Overall I love this mascara far more than I ever thought i would and I would deffinately recommend it. The only downside of the product is the fact i did get a little masacara build up under my eyes, but i do rub my eyes a lot and compared to my other mascaras this one stays on like a dream!

The next mascara I chose to review is the Bourjois volume clubbing ultra black.

Bourjois Volume Clubbing Mascara Ultra Black

I bought this mascara for when Im going on a night out, the packaging gave me the impression it was fit for this purpose. I dont mind the packaging- Its not the best, but its not the worst. Its priced at £7.99 and is also currently 3 for 2 in Boots. I had high hopes for this mascara purely because its bourjois and they have some products which I love! However Im afraid to say I was dissapointed. The brush was ok but not as bushy as the previous mascaras brush and when I applied the mascara the brush clumped together. The mascara itself ended up looking quite messy and clumped. Later in the day i had a lot of excess mascara below my eyes and I was therefore left unimpressed. I wouldnt recommend this mascara and I will not be purchasing it again.

So there you go my first proper post! Please leave any feedback below!

  1. Great review, so detailed. Thank you for posting.

I adore your blog and will definitly be back to read more of your posts. I wish you lots of luck with it.

    All the best,

  2. I've tried the Bourjois clubbing mascara and was also disappointed. It does nothing for my lashes (surely if it's purpose is for clubbing is to also make the lashes curl) and to price it up at £7.99 is a piss take really.

  3. Good review! Thanks!
Also, ive tried the Bourjois Mascara and it was very disappointing!

  4. Thankyou guys! It means a lot to see that people have actually looked at this :) Hopefully I'll be able to improve my posts when I get a new camera!

  5. maybeline all the way!!! their newest one is absolutely amazing. x

  6. That Bourjois clubbing mascara has thickening products which are also used in another form to thicken paint...disgusting!
